What Is a BOTOX COSMETIC® Treatment?
Wrinkle-smoothing injections with botulinum toxin A are safe and effective injections of a medical product that has been used on millions of patients around the world over the past two decades. It is composed of a purified protein that temporarily disables tiny muscles responsible for “dynamic wrinkles”—those caused by repeated facial expressions such as frowning or squinting. A common misconception about these treatments is that they “freeze” the face or limit facial expressions. In fact, only the tiny muscles responsible for the wrinkles are affected, leaving the larger facial muscles fully functional. Your BOTOX COSMETIC® Treatment
The wrinkle-smoothing treatment procedure is quick and simple, with no downtime and very little discomfort involved. After cleansing the area to be treated, injections are made with a very tiny needle. Redness and swelling may occur at the injection site, but these effects are usually minimal and will go away quickly. Most patients return to work or routine activities immediately following their 15-minute treatment. You will be given detailed instructions for your post-treatment care. Patients typically see noticeable results within 5 to 7 days. A customized follow-up appointment will be offered to meet your needs. Most patients return regularly to maintain their results.

Is BOTOX COSMETIC® safe?
The safety of BOTOX® treatments has been extensively studied for several years, and research has shown that it is safe when used correctly. However, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to avoid BOTOX® treatments because the effects on the unborn child are unknown. BOTOX® injections have been used for more than 20 years in medicine for non-cosmetic purposes, including muscle spasms.
Can BOTOX® be used to treat migraines or excessive sweating?
Focal injections of BOTOX® can effectively provide relief from chronic migraines and excessive sweating (technically called hyperhidrosis). BOTOX® works by temporarily suspending the activity of the sensory nerves associated with migraines or sweat glands, depending on where it is injected. The underarm, scalp, and hands are the most common areas to get relief from unwanted perspiration. Hyperhidrosis treatments are effective for approximately 6 months and migraine treatments typically last for 3 months, after which they may be repeated for continued relief.
Can I combine dermal fillers with BOTOX®?
Because these treatments provide complementary improvements—fillers add volume to the skin and soft tissues, and BOTOX® smooths out dynamic wrinkles—we often combine them to provide more complete facial rejuvenation. In fact, SOFT LIFT™ is a customized treatment that combines JUVÉDERM® filler injections with BOTOX® injections for a refreshed, more youthful look without surgery.
How soon will I see results after BOTOX® is injected?
Within 5 to 7 days, areas treated with BOTOX® usually begin to smooth out; improvement continues for about 10 to 14 days.
How long does BOTOX® or similar botulinum toxins last?
BOTOX® results and other wrinkle relaxers typically last for 3 to 5 months. You should return for a follow-up appointment after 3 or 4 months when results begin to diminish. More significant improvement in wrinkle smoothing occurs with ongoing treatments.
What areas of the face can be treated with BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is typically used to treat the following areas of the face where muscle contractions create lines and creases:
