44 year old South Asian woman who has two teenage children. She had tried hard to lose weight and improve her level of fitness but admitted that she had made little progress. She was frustrated that she could not improve the shape of her belly on her own. At 5'5" tall and 170 lbs., her BMI was about 29 before surgery.

Examination revealed a loose underlying muscle layer and waistline subcutaneous fat. She understood that a more visible scar was common in patients with brown or dark skin.
