Considering a Morpheus8 microneedling treatment? This innovative, popular procedure combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to tighten and smooth your skin, creating a more youthful appearance. It’s important, though, to understand how to prepare for your treatment and what Morpheus8 after care entails.

Preparing for Your Morpheus8 Treatment

Preparation is key to achieving the best results from your Morpheus8 treatment. When scheduling your treatment, we’ll discuss the skincare products you use and recommend modifications if needed. For example, you’ll need to stop using products containing retinol, glycolic acid, or other chemical exfoliants at least 5 days before the treatment because they increase the skin’s sensitivity.

Other ways to prepare for your treatment include:

  • Hydrate: This includes both your body and your skin. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day in the week leading up to your appointment to improve your treatment’s effectiveness and accelerate healing. We also recommend moisturizing your skin with hyaluronic acid-based products. This is a good habit year-round to enhance the appearance of mature skin.
  • Avoid sun exposure: Stay out of the sun for at least a week before your treatment to prevent skin sensitivity. If you must be outdoors, use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 45 before and during the course of your treatments. Do not use tanning beds during this time, either.
  • Stop taking anti-coagulants: Taking aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or drinking red wine or green tea in the week before your treatment increases the risk of bruising.
  • Clean skin: On the day of your treatment, ensure your skin is clean and free of makeup, lotions, or oils. This helps the treatment penetrate effectively.

What To Expect During the Treatment

The Morpheus8 treatment is relatively straightforward. Before beginning the procedure, we’ll apply numbing cream to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. During your Morpheus8 treatment, we use a handheld device with microneedles that penetrate the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy.

What Happens After a Morpheus8 Treatment?

You might experience some redness and swelling, similar to a mild sunburn, which can last a few days or a bit longer. Sleeping with your head elevated can help reduce swelling. The skin may be more sensitive to touch for a few hours after your treatment. Some clients report a sunburn sensation for 2 to 3 days post-treatment.

Other things to expect during your Morpheus8 recovery time include:

  • Skin blisters: Although rare, small “water blisters” can develop due to a superficial burn or skin abrasion. You’ll need to apply a topical antibacterial ointment covered with a bandage for a few days.
  • Crusting: You may see small, pinpoint scabs or crusty areas that peel for 2 to 7 days, depending on the extent of your treatment. We’ll provide a topical cream for you to apply regularly 2 to 4 times a day for 2 to 3 days to help healing. It’s essential not to pick at or peel scabs or crust. Contact us if you experience severe itching.
  • Bleeding: Pinpoint bleeding may appear for 1 to 2 days where the microneedles punctured the skin. Use mild soap and water to clean these areas.

We recommend that you don’t exercise or engage in other activities that will cause you to break a sweat for the first 48 hours after treatment.

Morpheus8 After Care for Your Skin

You should avoid sun exposure for 7 days after your treatment and use an effective sunscreen that protects you from the damaging effects of both UVA and UVB light. We can recommend a clinically proven sunscreen if you need additional direction.

You can resume your daily skincare routine 5 days after your treatment. If your skin is still sensitive after 5 days, avoid retinol products and high-potency vitamin C until the skin fully heals. Keep your skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer and drink 8 glasses of water a day to promote healing.

Your Morpheus8 Results

In the days and weeks following your Morpheus8 treatment, you’ll start to notice improvements in your skin. Some patients see initial results, such as reduced fine lines, within a few days. The most noticeable changes typically occur a few weeks post-treatment, as collagen production increases. Your skin’s texture and tone will continue to improve over the next 3 months or more.

While results vary, many patients enjoy the benefits of Morpheus8 for up to a year. We recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart for the best results.
